Pakistan and Azerbaijan to Strengthen Economic Ties through Upcoming Joint Ministerial Commission

Islamabad, November 1, 2024 – The Europe Today: The Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, Khazar Farhadov, met with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Ahad Cheema, on Thursday to discuss the upcoming 8th Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) between the two nations, scheduled for December 3-4, 2024.

Minister Cheema expressed optimism that the 8th JMC would bolster bilateral trade and economic cooperation, adding that the commission would be co-chaired by Pakistan’s Minister for Defence Production. He noted that both countries are actively implementing decisions made in the 7th JMC, demonstrating a commitment to deepening ties.

Cheema assured that the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Defence Production are collaborating closely with Azerbaijan to ensure practical outcomes from the JMC. He also announced that Pakistan is preparing to establish an ‘Azerbaijan Trade House,’ with more details to be revealed following official approval from Azerbaijan.

The minister highlighted the significance of the JMC as a platform for exploring trade opportunities in various sectors, emphasizing that previous sessions have advanced cooperation in trade, agriculture, energy, defence, and tourism.

Both parties agreed to expedite the work of the Joint Working Groups (JWG) across multiple sectors. Cheema instructed the Economic Affairs Division to draft a comprehensive protocol with relevant ministries and share it with the Embassy of Azerbaijan.

In closing, Cheema praised Ambassador Farhadov for his role in enhancing communication and strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
