Kyiv, December 7, 2024 – The Europe Today: Denmark has delivered a second batch of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Saturday, highlighting Denmark’s leadership in supporting Ukraine’s defense efforts.
“The second batch of F-16s from Denmark has arrived in Ukraine. This is an example of leadership in defending lives that sets Denmark apart,” Zelenskyy said in a post on social media platform X.
The announcement coincides with somber events in Ukraine, as the Zaporizhzhia region observes a day of mourning for 10 victims of a Russian missile strike on Friday. The attack on a local service station also injured 24 people, including two children, according to regional Governor Ivan Fedorov. Separately, three people were killed in a strike on the city of Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported.
Addressing the attacks, Zelenskyy condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions, accusing him of rejecting peace efforts. “Putin only seeks the ability to treat any country this way, with bombs, missiles, and all other forms of violence,” Zelenskyy said. “Only through strength can we resist this. And only through strength can real peace be established.”
Zelenskyy is in Paris on Saturday, where he is expected to meet with several world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron. The event, which celebrates the restoration of Notre Dame Cathedral after its devastating 2019 fire, has drawn global dignitaries.
Among the attendees is US President-elect Donald Trump. European leaders hope to engage the incoming administration in sustaining support for Ukraine amidst its ongoing war with Russia. It remains unclear whether Trump will meet Zelenskyy during the event.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed its forces had captured Berestky, a small village near the heavily contested town of Kurakhove in Ukraine’s Donetsk region, underscoring the continued volatility in the eastern conflict zone.
This latest development in Ukraine’s conflict highlights the stark contrasts in international engagement, with Denmark’s tangible military support contrasting Russia’s continued military aggression.
