Hanoi, February 21, 2025 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính issued an official dispatch on Thursday, emphasizing the need for proactive solutions to promote the circular economy, sustainable production and consumption, and sustainable trade in line with the European Union’s green policies.
The dispatch was addressed to multiple government ministries, provincial leaders, industry associations, and corporate executives, highlighting the significant role of Vietnam’s collaboration with the EU in driving sustainable trade and economic growth. The EU is Vietnam’s third-largest export market, with exports reaching US$51.66 billion in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 18.5%.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the positive impact of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), which has strengthened prospects for exports to the EU, boosting income for millions of workers and contributing to the shift toward a green and circular economy in Vietnam. However, he also noted the challenges posed by the EU’s green agreements, stressing that a proactive transition to a green economy presents numerous opportunities for businesses to enhance competitiveness and expand markets for sustainable products.
The dispatch called for the comprehensive and urgent implementation of solutions to align with international green policies, including energy conservation, environmental protection, and climate change adaptation. Specific tasks were outlined for relevant ministries, with a focus on refining policies and regulations to meet EU standards, especially in areas like waste management, hazardous chemical control, and circular economy principles.
Ministers were directed to strengthen collaboration and enforce regulations supporting sustainable development, including waste segregation, recovery, and recycling. Provincial leaders were urged to prioritize local policies that foster green transitions, technological innovation, and sustainable business practices.
The dispatch underscores Vietnam’s commitment to meeting the evolving demands of the global green economy, positioning the country to capitalize on opportunities within sustainable trade and industry.
