Azerbaijan and Hungary Hold Business Forum in Budapest to Expand Economic Cooperation

Budapest, September 6, 2025 – The Europe Today: An Azerbaijan–Hungary business forum was held in Budapest within the framework of the 11th session of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation between the governments of the two countries, bringing together representatives from both the public and private sectors.

The event was addressed by the co-chairs of the Joint Commission, Sahil Babayev, Minister of Finance of Azerbaijan, and Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary.

In his remarks, Minister Babayev underlined that the results of the 11th session of the Joint Commission had identified promising areas of cooperation, reflecting the spirit of friendship and strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Hungary. He emphasized that the business forum provides a vital platform for fostering partnerships, promoting innovation, and opening access to new markets.

Highlighting Azerbaijan’s role as a stable and reliable partner guided by diversification, sustainability, and openness, Babayev encouraged Hungarian companies to invest in Azerbaijan, while noting that Azerbaijani businesses are equally interested in exploring opportunities in Hungary and across the European Union.

Discussions at the forum focused on expanding bilateral trade, boosting investment, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, and enhancing cooperation in energy, the green economy, food security, and transport.

Tural Hajili, Deputy Executive Director of AZPROMO, delivered a presentation on Azerbaijan’s investment opportunities, including those in the Karabakh region, and invited Hungarian entrepreneurs to benefit from the country’s dynamic economy and favorable investment climate.

In addition, Sevda Aliyeva, Adviser to the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Tourism Board, highlighted Azerbaijan’s tourism potential, rich cultural heritage, and unique travel routes.

As part of the forum, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Azerbaijani company Hieronica Limited and the Hungarian Export Promotion Agency (HEPA). The forum also facilitated B2B meetings, where entrepreneurs from both sides explored future cooperation.

More than 90 companies participated in the event, including 30 from Azerbaijan, underscoring the strong interest of both countries’ business communities in strengthening economic ties.
