Nicosia, March 2, 2026 – The Europe Today: The government of Cyprus has confirmed that a drone attack targeted the UK’s RAF Akrotiri, causing what officials described as “limited damage.”
Konstantinos Letymbiotis, spokesperson for the Cypriot government, stated that the incident involved an unmanned aerial vehicle. He added that Cypriot authorities are closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the United Kingdom.
Officials did not immediately provide further details regarding the extent of the damage or whether there were any casualties. Security measures around the base have reportedly been heightened as investigations continue.
RAF Akrotiri is one of the United Kingdom’s sovereign base areas on the island and plays a strategic role in regional military operations. The confirmation of the drone strike comes amid heightened tensions across the broader Middle East region.
