9th Congress of Azerbaijan’s Council of Elders Opens in Baku with Broad National Participation

Baku, April 24, 2026 – The Europe Today: The 9th Congress of the Council of Elders of Azerbaijan commenced in the capital on April 23, bringing together a wide spectrum of society to reflect on national values and community engagement.

The congress is attended by members of the Board of Directors of the Council of Elders, prominent scientists, public and political figures, distinguished intellectuals, elders, families of martyrs, youth representatives, as well as delegates from 81 city and district organizations affiliated with the Council.

The event opened with the performance of the national anthem of Azerbaijan, followed by a minute of silence in tribute to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of Azerbaijani lands, as well as elders who passed away in recent years.

During the proceedings, Chairman of the Council of Elders Eldar Guliyev read out an address by Ilham Aliyev to the participants of the congress.

The gathering underscores the continued importance of the institution of eldership in preserving national traditions, promoting social cohesion, and guiding younger generations in Azerbaijan.
