Dushanbe, May 7, 2026 – The Europe Today: Freight transportation handled by private entrepreneurs in Tajikistan recorded significant growth during the first quarter of 2026, reflecting continued expansion in the country’s transport and logistics sector.
According to data released by the State Statistical Committee and obtained by Trend, private entrepreneurs transported 15.4 million tons of goods between January and March 2026, marking a 12.4 percent increase compared to the corresponding period last year.
In March alone, freight volumes handled by entrepreneurs reached 5.3 million tons, representing a year-on-year increase of 9.2 percent.
Overall freight transportation across all modes—including vehicles operated by ministries, government agencies, and private entrepreneurs—totaled 33.5 million tons during the first three months of the year, up 14 percent compared to the same period in 2025.
Total freight volumes in March 2026 stood at 11.2 million tons, reflecting an annual increase of 12.3 percent.
The latest figures indicate stronger growth momentum compared to 2025, when freight volumes managed by entrepreneurs increased by 5.6 percent both in March and during the January–March period.
The continued expansion of Tajikistan’s transport sector has been attributed to rising entrepreneurial activity, growing domestic trade, and the development of small and medium-sized enterprises. Government initiatives aimed at supporting private businesses are also contributing to the increasing role of entrepreneurs in logistics and transportation services.
