Islamabad, September 17, 2026 – The Europe Today: Pakistan has lodged a strong diplomatic protest with India over what it described as provocative and unacceptable manoeuvres by an Indian naval vessel in Pakistan’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), according to the Foreign Office.
The Foreign Office on Wednesday summoned the Chargé d’Affaires of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad and conveyed a formal demarche over the incident, which occurred while the Pakistan Navy was conducting its biennial SEASPARK-26 exercise.
According to the Foreign Office, an Indian naval vessel carried out what Pakistan described as aggressive manoeuvres in dangerously close proximity to a Pakistani naval ship, resulting in contact between the two vessels.
Pakistan said the incident constituted a serious violation of international law and the 1991 Agreement on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troop Movements, warning that such actions could contribute to heightened tensions in the region.
The Indian Chargé d’Affaires was asked to convey Islamabad’s strong rejection of the incident to the Indian government. Pakistan also called on New Delhi to strictly observe international law and bilateral agreements designed to prevent dangerous incidents involving the armed forces of the two countries.
The Foreign Office further stated that Pakistan’s Chargé d’Affaires in New Delhi would lodge a corresponding demarche with India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
India has separately lodged a protest over the naval incident, offering a different account of the circumstances surrounding the contact between the two vessels. According to the Indian side, the incident occurred in international waters and involved what it described as the conduct of a Pakistani naval unit.
The exchange of diplomatic protests comes amid heightened sensitivities in Pakistan-India relations, with both sides invoking the 1991 bilateral agreement in connection with the maritime incident.
