Baku, September 28, 2026 — The Europe Today: Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev participated in several high-level events and held bilateral meetings on the fifth day of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, highlighting the country’s diplomatic priorities and positions on key international issues.
At a high-level meeting of the Group of Friends of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), Rafiyev highlighted Azerbaijan’s pioneering role in advancing intercultural dialogue through the Baku Process and the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue.
He also announced Azerbaijan’s intention to host the UNAOC Global Forum in 2027, further underlining the country’s commitment to promoting dialogue and understanding among different cultures and civilisations.
During the Joint Arab-Islamic Ministerial Meeting on Jerusalem, Rafiyev reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s firm support for a two-state solution, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as the capital of the State of Palestine, in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session, Rafiyev also held bilateral discussions with Fatumata Jau, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guinea-Bissau, as well as other counterparts, focusing on cooperation within international organisations and opportunities to further strengthen bilateral engagement.
The meetings formed part of Azerbaijan’s active diplomatic engagement during the 81st UN General Assembly session.
