Morocco’s Abdellatif Hammouchi Concludes Strategic Security Visit to UAE

Rabat, September 24, 2024 – The Europe Today: Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance in Morocco, has concluded a significant official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of security. The visit, which took place from September 23-26, marked a pivotal step in advancing collaboration between the two nations.

One of the key outcomes of this visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Morocco’s General Directorate for National Security (DGSN) and the Mohamed bin Zayed Academy for Police and Security Sciences. This landmark agreement is designed to enhance training and professional development in the field of policing, ensuring the exchange of knowledge and expertise in specialized security domains. As part of this collaboration, Moroccan security personnel will benefit from the academy’s state-of-the-art resources, building capacities in various areas critical to national and regional security.

In addition, the MoU extends to higher education cooperation, particularly in police and legal sciences, underscoring efforts to modernize and professionalize Morocco’s security forces. This initiative aligns with Morocco’s broader strategy to prepare its security apparatus for emerging global challenges.

During his visit, Hammouchi held bilateral discussions with Major General Pilot Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police. Their talks centered on expanding security cooperation, reflecting the deepening ties between Morocco and the UAE. Both sides emphasized shared security challenges and explored opportunities for mutual collaboration.

Further bolstering international relations, Hammouchi also met with Ali Obaid Al Dhaheri, Head of the UAE National Intelligence Service. Their discussions focused on pressing international security issues and recent developments in global security strategies.

Hammouchi’s itinerary included a tour of several advanced security facilities in the UAE, notably the “Safe City” project, which leverages cutting-edge technology for traffic management and comprehensive security operations.

On the sidelines of the visit, Hammouchi met with Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, President of Interpol, to discuss global security cooperation. Their talks addressed the increasing need for enhanced coordination between international security agencies in order to effectively combat transnational threats.

This visit is a part of Morocco’s ongoing efforts to solidify its international security partnerships. By forming strategic agreements such as this, Morocco seeks to enhance its capacity to address evolving security challenges on a global scale, while ensuring the modernization and professional development of its national security forces.
