Hanoi Hosts 13th Central Committee Meeting to Discuss Key Reforms and National Development

Hanoi, November 25, 2024 – The Europe Today: The 13th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) convened a crucial meeting in Hanoi on Monday morning, chaired by Party General Secretary Tô Lâm. The session focused on vital issues concerning the country’s political system, national development, and long-term goals.

In his opening remarks, General Secretary Lâm emphasized the Politburo and Secretariat’s commitment to fulfilling major objectives set during the 10th session of the 13th Party Central Committee. These include accelerating efforts to meet the targets for 2024 and 2025, along with the broader goals for the entire 13th tenure, while also preparing for the 14th National Party Congress.

One of the key points raised by the Party chief was the restructuring and streamlining of the political system, particularly at the central level, to enhance effectiveness and efficiency. He underscored the importance of the Politburo’s ongoing efforts to implement Resolution No. 18 of the 12th Party Central Committee, which outlines the reform and restructuring of the political system. The deadline for completing these reforms is set before the 14th National Party Congress.

While acknowledging initial successes, Lâm highlighted that numerous challenges remain, calling for continued efforts to reform and restructure the system to meet contemporary demands. He stressed that these changes directly impact the national development process, as well as the welfare of officials, Party members, and civil servants across the political apparatus. The Politburo’s report on a comprehensive review was also presented to ensure consensus on the future direction and specific roadmaps for streamlining the organizational structure.

The Party General Secretary urged the Central Committee to prioritize these significant matters, fostering unity and strong commitment in the reorganization of the political system, in line with the country’s evolving needs.

Another pivotal issue discussed was the revival of the nuclear power project in Ninh Thuận Province. General Secretary Lâm stressed the importance of advancing national energy infrastructure to support socio-economic growth and fulfill national development objectives for the 2030-2045 period. The project, which had been suspended due to earlier challenges, is now set to resume as the necessary conditions for its continuation have been met.

The meeting also reviewed key personnel decisions, underscoring the need for unity and swift implementation of reforms to align with the country’s developmental priorities.

This session marks an important step in preparing the country for its future development while ensuring that the political system remains responsive to the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
