Hanoi, November 27, 2024 – The Europe Today: President Rumen Radev of the Republic of Bulgaria delivered a compelling address at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV) on Tuesday, underscoring the enduring significance and future potential of Vietnam-Bulgaria relations. His speech formed a key part of his official visit to Vietnam.
Speaking to an audience of DAV lecturers and students, President Radev emphasized the strategic positioning of both nations as vital connectors. He described Việt Nam as a crucial bridge linking Bulgaria with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), while Bulgaria serves as a gateway for Việt Nam to access the European Union.
Highlighting the robust legal frameworks and cooperation mechanisms between the two countries, President Radev outlined collaborative efforts spanning economy, trade, defense, education, and security. He paid particular attention to economic and trade ties, announcing the upcoming Vietnam-Bulgaria Business Forum in Hồ Chí Minh City as a platform to enhance bilateral trade relations and explore mutually beneficial opportunities in key sectors.
President Radev celebrated the legacy of educational exchanges, noting that over 3,600 Vietnamese engineers and scientists, along with 30,000 skilled workers, were trained in Bulgaria. Many of these individuals have risen to prominent leadership roles in Vietnam, making significant contributions to national development.
Sharing insights into Bulgaria’s developmental model, the President emphasized the importance of balancing innovation with tradition. He pointed to his country’s success in fostering startups and advancing the digital economy as a potential inspiration for Vietnam’s own growth strategies.
Addressing the future diplomats of Vietnam, President Radev highlighted the critical role of diplomacy in a world characterized by increasing competition and fragile international relations. He urged the students to view diplomacy not merely as a profession but as a vocation that serves the nation, safeguards citizens’ interests, and promotes Vietnam’s integration into the global arena.
