Jakarta, January 17, 2025 – The Europe Today: Deputy Foreign Minister Anis Matta has hailed the ceasefire agreement between the Palestinian resistance group Hamas and Israel as a triumph for justice and humanity. The agreement, announced in Doha on Wednesday, seeks to end the devastating conflict in Gaza.
In a statement on social media, Matta called the ceasefire a pivotal milestone in the Palestinian people’s struggle for independence. “We hope this ceasefire will be implemented consistently and comprehensively in line with the agreement,” he wrote.
Matta reaffirmed Indonesia’s unwavering support for Palestinian independence, underscoring the nation’s constitutional commitment to promoting global peace, justice, and freedom. He encouraged both the Indonesian people and the international community to continue providing humanitarian aid and support for rebuilding the Gaza Strip, which has suffered extensive destruction during the conflict.
The Deputy Foreign Minister also urged the global community to hold Israel accountable for alleged war crimes in Gaza, advocating for the involvement of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to address these atrocities.
The ceasefire, brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, was announced by Qatar’s Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. Scheduled to take effect on Sunday, January 19, 2025, the agreement encompasses several key provisions:
- The release of hostages and exchange of prisoners.
- A cessation of hostilities.
- Security guarantees for Israel.
- The delivery of substantial humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Additionally, the agreement includes plans for dialogue on the governance of the Gaza Strip and the reconstruction of Palestinian territories.
Matta’s remarks echo Indonesia’s longstanding advocacy for Palestine and its call for a just and lasting resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
