AI Technology Gains Momentum in Vietnam with Expanding Investments and Applications

Hanoi, January 24, 2025 – The Europe Today:  Personal computer manufacturers and tech giants are ramping up efforts to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into products and systems in Vietnam, marking significant progress in the country’s journey toward becoming a global AI hub.

Asus has led the charge among PC manufacturers by incorporating AI technology into its products, providing both online and in-store experiences to educate consumers on AI’s capabilities. “With the ROG series targeting gamers, AI features have been put to work to enhance user experience,” said an Asus representative. The company is also focusing on overcoming language barriers in the Asia-Pacific region by enhancing its AI’s ability to recognize Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Burmese, allowing users from these countries to maximize AI functionality.

Meanwhile, NVIDIA, a global leader in AI technology, has made strategic moves to establish its presence in Vietnam. It recently acquired shares in VinBrain, an AI start-up under Vingroup, and announced plans to build two research centers in the country. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang highlighted Vietnam’s potential as a global AI player, citing its pool of one million software engineers who could be retrained to work with AI. He projected that AI could become Vietnam’s largest export in the coming years.

In addition, domestic companies are making substantial investments in AI infrastructure. Viettel has committed $100 million to a large AI data center, while FPT has entered a $200 million strategic partnership with NVIDIA to build an AI factory supporting cloud computing platforms for research and development.

Economic Potential of AI

Nguyễn Trung Chính, Chairman of CMC Corporation, emphasized AI’s transformative power, stating, “AI is not just a new technology but a vital resource with the potential to impact all sectors of the economy.” He noted that AI is projected to contribute $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030 and increase labor productivity by 40% by 2035.

FPT Group Chairman Trương Gia Bình, an early advocate of AI investment, highlighted the rapid growth in global AI investments, with companies like NVIDIA reaching valuations of $3 trillion. He affirmed that Việt Nam’s digital transformation and technological development rely heavily on AI, which is expected to play a critical role in the country’s future economic growth.

According to a Google report, widespread AI adoption could generate an additional $79.3 billion for Vietnamese businesses by 2030, equivalent to approximately 12% of the nation’s GDP. Marc Woo, Managing Director for Việt Nam at Google Asia-Pacific, described AI as a potential game changer for improving productivity and accelerating development.

Government Support and Strategic Goals

The Vietnamese government has prioritized AI development as part of its national strategy for research, application, and development of new technologies by 2030. This strategy aims to position Vietnam as a prominent hub for AI research and application in the region and globally, contributing to economic and social advancement in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

With strong investments from both domestic and international players, Vietnam is poised to leverage AI as a catalyst for innovation and growth, unlocking new opportunities across sectors and accelerating its transformation into a technology-driven economy.
