Moscow, February 12, 2025 – The Europe Today: The enduring friendship between Vietnam and Russia has withstood the test of time and political changes, said Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov in his opening speech at an exhibition marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties in Moscow.
Lavrov highlighted Russia’s pride in having supported Vietnam during its struggle for independence and in its subsequent nation-building efforts. He emphasized that the two nations have established a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, characterized by dynamic dialogue and unwavering political trust at the highest levels.
The state visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Vietnam in June and the official visit of Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn to Russia in September 2024 provided strong momentum for bilateral cooperation. Lavrov also noted the effective discussions between President Putin and Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính at the BRICS Summit in Kazan in October 2024, as well as Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin’s visit to Vietnam earlier this year, which further facilitated practical collaboration.
Over the past 75 years, Vietnam-Russia relations have expanded across multiple sectors, including economy, trade, energy, science, education, culture, and international cooperation. Within the United Nations, the two nations maintain close coordination on global and regional issues.
Reflecting on the deep-rooted ties, Lavrov expressed confidence that both countries will continue to strengthen their partnership for the benefit of their peoples and for regional and global stability.
Vietnamese Ambassador Đặng Minh Khôi reaffirmed that the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1950 laid the foundation for a strong and trustworthy partnership. He conveyed gratitude for the Soviet Union’s and Russia’s long-standing support, particularly in training generations of Vietnamese intellectuals and scientists who have contributed to the nation’s advancements in various fields.
Since elevating their relations to a Strategic Partnership in 2001 and a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2012, the two countries have maintained high-level exchanges and deepened cooperation across defense, security, economy, science, education, and culture. The ambassador expressed optimism that the Vietnamese and Russian people would continue to seize opportunities to enhance all-round collaboration, further strengthening economic and trade ties in alignment with their strong political relationship.
Participants at the event celebrated the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties, expressing their hopes for a flourishing Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership that continues to yield mutual benefits and contribute to global peace and prosperity.
