Prime Minister Chính Highlights Multilateralism and Green Development in Meeting with Kenyan Defence Chief

Hanoi, April 17, 2025 — The Europe Today: Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính on Wednesday reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to multilateralism, international solidarity, and sustainable development, while underscoring the crucial role that developing nations such as Vietnam and Kenya play in shaping a greener and more inclusive global future.

The Prime Minister made the remarks during a reception in Hanoi for Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Soipan Tuya, who is visiting Vietnam to attend the 4th Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit.

Welcoming the Kenyan delegation, Prime Minister Chính expressed confidence that their participation would contribute valuable perspectives and initiatives to the summit’s agenda and further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Recognising vast untapped potential in Vietnam–Kenya cooperation, the Prime Minister proposed enhancing exchanges of high-level delegations and expanding collaboration in multiple areas, including defence and security, trade, education and training, clean agriculture, food security, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges—particularly among the younger generation.

He also emphasized Vietnam’s strong interest in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation—key pillars in the country’s national development strategy—and suggested both sides enhance cooperation and knowledge-sharing in these domains.

During the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Tuya conveyed a personal letter from President William Ruto of Kenya to Prime Minister Chính. In the letter, President Ruto expressed Kenya’s desire to deepen cooperation with Vietnam and praised its vision for sustainable development, as well as its effective organisation of the P4G Summit—an event of significant importance for developing countries.

Cabinet Secretary Tuya also highlighted Kenya’s prioritization of digital transformation as a key driver of socio-economic growth, noting the country’s ambition to become a financial and technological hub in East Africa and across the African continent. She affirmed Kenya’s readiness to engage in effective digital transformation cooperation with Vietnam.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the positive momentum in bilateral relations, particularly following the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Political and Diplomatic Cooperation, which provides a legal framework for regular dialogue, mutual understanding, and comprehensive cooperation.

To further enhance bilateral engagement, the two sides agreed to explore the possibility of establishing diplomatic missions in each country and to initiate negotiations for cooperation agreements in areas such as transnational crime prevention, agriculture, and science and technology.

The meeting reflects both nations’ shared commitment to a collaborative and sustainable global future, and their desire to deepen practical and strategic ties across key sectors.
