Oran, April 21, 2025 – The Europe Today: Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Sunday inaugurated a new Turkish Consulate General in the northwestern Algerian city of Oran, further strengthening diplomatic ties between the two nations.
The official opening ceremony was held in the coastal Mediterranean city, which is known for its historical Turkish old town and a preserved Ottoman-era palace—symbols of the deep-rooted cultural and historical ties between Türkiye and Algeria.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry confirmed that the event marked an important step in expanding Türkiye’s diplomatic footprint in the region. The establishment of the consulate is expected to enhance consular services and support growing bilateral cooperation in political, economic, and cultural fields.
Minister Fidan is currently visiting Algeria to participate in the Third Türkiye-Algeria Joint Planning Group, a high-level platform aimed at coordinating joint initiatives and deepening strategic collaboration.
In recent years, Türkiye has significantly increased its diplomatic presence across the African continent, reaching a record number of representations as part of its proactive foreign policy to strengthen partnerships with African nations.
The new Consulate General in Oran underscores Türkiye’s continued commitment to reinforcing its relations with Algeria and the wider North African region.
