Ceasefire Achieved: India and Pakistan Suspend Military Operations Across All Fronts

Islamabad, May 10, 2025 – The Europe Today: U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that India and Pakistan have agreed to a “full and immediate ceasefire” after a week of heightened military confrontation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. The announcement came following intense U.S.-led diplomatic engagement with top leadership from both countries.

Posting on Truth Social, President Trump stated, “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both countries on using common sense and great intelligence.”

Although initially unconfirmed by both countries, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri later held a press conference in New Delhi confirming the ceasefire. He said that “all military operations on land, in the air, and at sea have been suspended with immediate effect.”

Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also issued a statement on social media, affirming that an understanding had been reached with Pakistan on cessation of hostilities. He reiterated India’s firm stance against terrorism, adding that counterterrorism cooperation would remain a priority.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio elaborated that the ceasefire agreement was the result of sustained diplomatic engagement over 48 hours, involving high-level talks with Prime Ministers Shehbaz Sharif and Narendra Modi, military chiefs, and national security advisors from both sides. Formal negotiations on broader issues are expected to begin soon at a neutral venue.

Tensions had escalated sharply following the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which left 26 dead. India blamed Pakistan-based elements, while Pakistan rejected the allegations, calling India’s retaliatory measures—including border closures and treaty suspensions—“acts of war.”

In response, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, striking Indian military installations and claiming the downing of five Indian fighter jets, including four Rafales. Pakistan also intercepted 77 Israeli-made Harop drones.

Despite no immediate plans for a meeting of the National Command Authority in Pakistan, officials stated that the situation remains under control and further escalation has been averted—for now.

The United States and G7 countries have welcomed the ceasefire and urged both nations to engage in sustained dialogue for long-term peace and regional stability.
