Washington, May 13, 2026 – The Europe Today: Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he will hold extensive discussions with Xi Jinping on a range of global and bilateral issues during his upcoming visit to China, including the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
Speaking to reporters before departing the White House, Trump said he expects a “long talk” with the Chinese president but added that he does not believe Washington requires assistance from Beijing regarding Iran.
“I don’t think we need any help with Iran. We’ll win it one way or the other, peacefully or otherwise,” he said, according to media reports.
The remarks come ahead of the first face-to-face meeting between the leaders of the world’s two largest economies in more than six months, as both sides seek to stabilize strained relations over trade disputes, regional conflicts, and other geopolitical disagreements.
Trump is scheduled to arrive in Beijing on Wednesday, with formal talks planned for Thursday and Friday. The visit marks his first trip to China since 2017.
According to reports, the United States has been urging China to use its influence over Iran, given Beijing’s close economic ties and continued imports of Iranian oil, to help facilitate a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.
However, Trump later downplayed the centrality of Iran in the upcoming discussions, stating: “We have a lot of things to discuss. I wouldn’t say Iran is one of them, to be honest with you, because we have Iran very much under control.”
