Swedish PM Warns Against Left-Wing Alternative Despite Opposition Lead Ahead of Election

Swedish

Stockholm, June 6, 2026 – The Europe Today: Swedish Prime Minister and leader of the Moderate Party, Ulf Kristersson, has expressed concern over the growing support for Sweden’s left-wing opposition parties, warning that a potential red-green government could pose risks to the country’s economy and security.

Speaking in Ekot’s Saturday interview, Kristersson said that the “red-green alternative” remains a serious challenge ahead of the parliamentary elections, which are now just 100 days away.

The Prime Minister argued that too few people are carefully considering the consequences of what he described as the most left-wing government Sweden has ever had. According to him, voters should pay closer attention to the possible impact such a government could have on economic stability and national security.

His remarks come after Statistics Sweden released its latest party sympathy survey, showing that the Social Democrats, the Left Party, and the Green Party together have enough public support to secure their own majority in the parliamentary elections scheduled for September 13.

The survey indicated that the Tidö coalition parties — comprising the Moderates, the Christian Democrats, and the Sweden Democrats — collectively received 40.1 percent support. Meanwhile, the Liberals were backed by only 2.5 percent of respondents, a figure that would leave the party outside the Swedish parliament if replicated on election day.

Defending his government’s record, Kristersson said that voters are familiar with the achievements of the current administration, while the policies and consequences of a future left-wing government remain uncertain.

“Everyone knows what we have achieved over these years. No one knows what a left-wing government would mean,” the Prime Minister stated.
