Presidents of Belarus and Azerbaijan Hold Talks in Baku on Strengthening Bilateral Relations

Baku, November 12, 2024 – The Europe Today: President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko met with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Baku, during a working visit to participate in the World Summit on Climate Change. The two leaders focused on bolstering their nations’ bilateral cooperation, building on a series of recent high-level engagements.

The meeting underscored the deepening relationship between Belarus and Azerbaijan, marked by intensive diplomatic exchanges, including President Lukashenko’s state visit to Azerbaijan in May. That visit laid the foundation for cooperation across twelve strategic areas, emphasizing trade, economic development, and partnership advancement.

“We have agreed on a lot. I think we have everything we need to move along this path,” President Lukashenko stated, highlighting the potential for fruitful collaboration. He expressed optimism about realizing these agreements, contingent on proactive measures by ministries and ambassadors from both sides.

The ongoing progress was echoed by Belarusian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Andrei Ravkov, who described tangible advancements since the May visit, with significant progress in all identified areas. Ambassador Ravkov expressed confidence in achieving substantial outcomes from these agreements and noted the ambition to elevate bilateral trade to $1 billion over the next two years. Trade volume in goods and services is anticipated to surpass $500 million by year’s end, reflecting notable growth.

This fall, Presidents Lukashenko and Aliyev also had opportunities to discuss critical regional and international issues during meetings at the CIS and BRICS summits held in Moscow and Kazan.

The leaders’ discussions in Baku focused on maintaining this momentum, enhancing trade, and further solidifying the friendship between Belarus and Azerbaijan for mutual benefit and development.
