Vietnam and UK Sign MoU to Strengthen Consumer Protection

Hanoi, March 26, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Ministry of Industry and Trade’s National Competition Commission and the British Embassy in Vietnam signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on consumer protection on March 25 as part of the ASEAN-UK Economic Integration Programme. The initiative aims to promote economic renewal, development, and sustainability.

At the signing ceremony, Deputy Minister Phan Thị Thắng emphasized that the MoU not only marks a milestone in bilateral cooperation but also reaffirms Vietnam’s commitment to protecting consumer rights in an increasingly interconnected global marketplace.

She highlighted Vietnam’s continuous efforts to enhance its legal framework, improve enforcement capacity, and strengthen international cooperation to ensure a safe, transparent, and sustainable consumer environment.

The MoU establishes a formal framework for collaboration, focusing on information exchange, knowledge sharing, and joint initiatives to bolster consumer protection enforcement. Key focus areas include defective product recalls, consumer awareness campaigns, specialized training for regulatory officials, and joint technical assistance projects.

British Ambassador to Vietnam Iain Frew noted that, given Vietnam’s rapid economic growth and deep integration into international markets, this collaboration is timely. It will enhance market transparency, promote a fair business environment, and contribute to economic development in Vietnam and ASEAN as a whole.

The UK has pledged to support Vietnam in improving its business environment across various domains, including consumer protection, product recalls, administrative reforms, and digital transformation.
