Astana, June 18, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping held bilateral talks on Monday in Astana on the sidelines of the second China–Central Asia Summit, where they reaffirmed the strategic partnership between their two nations.
The meeting took place at the St. Regis Hotel in the Kazakh capital and focused on strengthening Turkmen–Chinese cooperation across political, economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres. According to Turkmenistan’s official media, the leaders reviewed the current status and future prospects of bilateral collaboration, as well as regional and international developments of mutual concern.
During the meeting, President Xi Jinping extended an invitation to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to attend the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit and other major international events set to take place in China.
In response, President Berdimuhamedov invited President Xi to undertake an official visit to Turkmenistan at a time of his convenience.
Highlighting the depth of bilateral relations, the two sides signed an intergovernmental agreement on technical and economic cooperation, further consolidating their growing partnership.
Both leaders emphasized that the relationship between Turkmenistan and China has reached the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership, underpinned by shared interests and long-standing ties.
President Berdimuhamedov is in Astana to participate in the second China–Central Asia Summit, which gathers leaders from across the region to strengthen multilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, connectivity, energy, and regional security.
