Washington, March 11, 2026 – The Europe Today: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to build what he described as the first new oil refinery in the United States in nearly 50 years, unveiling a $300 billion project to be developed at the Port of Brownsville in the state of Texas.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Trump said the refinery project would be developed by America First Refining with investment support from Reliance Industries, India’s largest privately held energy company. He described the investment as “the biggest in U.S. history,” emphasizing that it reflects the country’s renewed focus on energy dominance.
The refinery is expected to increase domestic fuel production while strengthening the United States’ capacity to export petroleum products globally. According to Trump, the facility will primarily supply U.S. markets, enhance national energy security and expand energy shipments from the Gulf Coast.
The project is also expected to generate significant economic benefits, including the creation of thousands of jobs in South Texas and billions of dollars in regional economic activity.
Trump credited the partnership with Reliance Industries for advancing the project, noting the company’s experience in operating one of the world’s largest refining complexes and its growing international energy investments.
Linking the initiative to his administration’s economic agenda, the U.S. president said streamlined permit processes and tax reductions had helped attract major foreign investments into the American energy sector.
“Thank you to our partners in India and their largest privately held energy company, Reliance, for this tremendous investment,” Trump said, adding that the project demonstrates increasing foreign investment in the United States.
He also stated that the refinery would be built using advanced environmental technologies and is intended to operate under modern environmental standards, describing it as “the cleanest refinery in the world.”
If completed, the project would rank among the largest energy infrastructure investments announced in the United States in recent decades.
