Turkmen President Announces New Phase of Galkynysh Gas Field Development

Mary Province, April 9, 2026 – The Europe Today:  Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Wednesday announced that the fourth stage of development of the country’s крупнейший Galkynysh Gas Field will commence in the coming days, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s energy sector expansion.

The announcement was made during a ceremony held in the Ymambaba gengeshlik of Yoloten district in Mary Province, where the president also laid the foundation of a new settlement designed to accommodate 4,500 households.

Addressing the gathering, President Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to implementing comprehensive regional development programs, including the construction of modern infrastructure and the establishment of new industries. He emphasized that these initiatives are aimed at ensuring the well-being and prosperity of citizens across the country.

According to official reports, the new settlement—spanning over 800 hectares—will feature 4,500 residential units with modern amenities, capable of housing more than 22,500 residents. The project will also include administrative buildings for the rural council, educational institutions such as secondary schools and kindergartens, healthcare centers, a cultural complex, and a mosque.

The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, including the Speaker of the Mejlis, deputy chairpersons of the Cabinet of Ministers, heads of ministries and sectoral agencies, as well as the khyakim (governor) of Mary Province and local residents.

During the event, the president, responding to a request from children, signed a commemorative message marking the foundation of the settlement. The message was placed in a capsule embedded within the foundation, symbolizing the beginning of the project. Berdimuhamedov also laid the first concrete and offered his blessing in accordance with national traditions.

A ceremonial sadaqa was held later the same day to commemorate the occasion, reflecting Turkmenistan’s cultural heritage and community spirit.
