Rabat, July 31, 2026 – The Europe Today: Morocco’s Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, hosted an official luncheon in Tetouan on Thursday to commemorate the 27th anniversary of the accession of King Mohammed VI to the Throne, in the presence of Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and Prince Moulay Rachid.
The luncheon formed part of the official Throne Day celebrations, following the royal reception earlier in the day presided over by King Mohammed VI in the nearby city of M’diq.
Upon their arrival at the venue, Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and Prince Moulay Rachid reviewed a detachment of the Royal Guard, which rendered military honours, before being received by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch.
The two princes were also welcomed by senior regional and local officials, including the Wali of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region and Governor of the Tangier-Assilah Prefecture, Younes Tazi, the President of the Regional Council, Omar Moro, the Governor of Tetouan Province, and other dignitaries.
The official luncheon was attended by a broad cross-section of Morocco’s political, institutional, diplomatic and military leadership. Participants included the speakers of both houses of Parliament, advisers to King Mohammed VI, cabinet ministers, heads of constitutional institutions, senior commanders of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Morocco, representatives of the Moroccan diaspora, and prominent civilian and military figures.
Earlier in the day, King Mohammed VI, accompanied by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, Prince Moulay Rachid and Prince Moulay Ahmed, presided over an official Throne Day reception at M’diq-Fnideq Prefecture Square.
During the ceremony, the King received congratulations from senior government officials, military commanders, judicial authorities, members of the diplomatic corps, religious leaders and distinguished international guests, including Gianni Infantino and members of Morocco’s national football team.
The annual Throne Day celebrations are among Morocco’s most significant national events, bringing together senior state officials, foreign diplomats, military leaders and representatives from across society to commemorate the King’s accession to the Throne, reaffirm national unity and underscore the continuity and stability of the Kingdom’s institutions.
