Uzbekistan

Ashgabat, October 13, 2026 – The Europe Today: National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a telephone conversation with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Tuesday, reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.

During the conversation, the two leaders exchanged warm greetings and expressed satisfaction with the current state of cooperation between the two brotherly countries. Berdimuhamedov thanked President Mirziyoyev for his significant personal contribution to strengthening the bonds of friendship and partnership between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

Both sides noted that bilateral relations were developing dynamically in political and diplomatic affairs, trade and economic cooperation, cultural and humanitarian exchanges, and other areas of mutual interest.

They emphasized that regular meetings between Berdimuhamedov, Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President Mirziyoyev, along with agreements reached during these engagements, had established a solid foundation for expanding cooperation at bilateral and multilateral levels.

In this context, they highlighted the recent meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Eighth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan, held in Turkmenistan’s Avaza National Tourist Zone.

Particular attention was given to initiatives aimed at strengthening industrial cooperation, implementing joint investment projects, improving transport and logistics connectivity, and expanding collaboration in energy, the rational use of water resources, environmental protection and the adoption of modern technologies.

Discussing cooperation within the CIS framework, Berdimuhamedov described the transfer of the organization’s chairmanship from Turkmenistan to Uzbekistan as a source of particular pride and an event of significant symbolic importance.

He expressed confidence that the initiatives advanced by Turkmenistan would receive practical implementation during Uzbekistan’s chairmanship of the Commonwealth.

The Turkmen National Leader also recalled proposals presented at the Avaza summit to strengthen multilateral cooperation across the CIS region. These included expanding economic ties, establishing joint production facilities, ensuring food and energy security, improving transport connectivity, deepening humanitarian cooperation and strengthening collective efforts to combat contemporary transnational threats, including cybercrime.

Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that implementing these initiatives would create additional opportunities to maintain peace and stability while promoting economic growth throughout the CIS region and beyond.

The leaders also highlighted the successful organization of international conferences, meetings, competitions and cultural events alongside the high-level forums hosted by Turkmenistan.

Berdimuhamedov congratulated Mirziyoyev on Uzbekistan’s achievement at the international “Tatar Kızı” (Tatar Girl) competition, where a representative of Uzbekistan won the Grand Prix.

“I am sincerely pleased that a representative of Uzbekistan won the Grand Prix at the international ‘Tatar Kızı’ (Tatar Girl) competition,” Berdimuhamedov said.

He noted that such cultural initiatives played an important role in bringing peoples closer together, expanding humanitarian ties, promoting the exchange of traditions and customs, and creating favourable conditions for stronger interstate dialogue.

At the conclusion of the telephone conversation, both leaders expressed confidence that Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan relations would continue to develop and strengthen across a broad range of areas. They also exchanged best wishes for each other and the friendly peoples of their respective countries.
