Beijing, November 23, 2024 – The Europe Today: China has announced draft guidelines for the development of the country’s data infrastructure, which include plans to upgrade its 5G network to the advanced 5G-A standard and to advance research and innovation in 6G technologies. The guidelines, released by the national data bureau on Friday, are open for public feedback and outline the nation’s strategic approach to enhancing its communication and data networks.
According to the guidelines, China will focus on balancing the deployment of international communication gateways across its eastern, central, and western regions while expanding international submarine and land cable information channels. The country will also establish a satellite internet system that integrates both space and ground facilities to further enhance global connectivity.
The initiative aims to ensure the large-scale, low-cost, and secure flow of data across regions, with a focus on encouraging industries and regions to explore new technological infrastructures, including blockchain and privacy-preserving computing. This is intended to provide an efficient, reliable, and cost-effective environment for both centralized and decentralized data transactions.
Additionally, China plans to optimize its computing resource layout, accelerating the green development and coordination of general-purpose computing power, intelligent computing power, and supercomputing capabilities. The guidelines also highlight the importance of optimizing network billing methods and reducing data transmission costs between the eastern and western regions.
The 5G-A network, which exceeds the current 5G standard, offers significantly improved speed, latency, connection scale, and energy efficiency. With a peak data rate of 10 gigabits per second for downloads and 1 gigabit per second for uploads, as well as millisecond-level latency, 5G-A will also enable low-cost connectivity for the Internet of Things. Cities such as Beijing and Shanghai have already begun offering 5G-A services in select districts.
China’s vision for the future also includes a strong push for the development of 6G technology, positioning the country at the forefront of global advancements in data and communication networks.
