Polish PM Donald Tusk Meets Zelenskyy in Lviv to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Lviv, January 24, 2025 – The Europe Today: Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk traveled to Lviv for a high-level meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as confirmed by the Polish Prime Minister’s Office on social media. The visit, kept secret for security reasons, underscores the growing cooperation between Poland and Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict in the region.

At a joint press conference, Prime Minister Tusk reaffirmed Poland’s steadfast support for Ukraine’s NATO membership. “Poland will do everything to make Ukraine’s NATO membership possible,” Tusk stated, emphasizing his country’s commitment to Ukraine’s integration into Euro-Atlantic structures.

The meeting was first announced by President Zelenskyy during the All-Ukrainian Congress of Local and Regional Authorities in Lviv. “I have already had talks with the Chancellor of Germany, the Chancellor of Austria, and today I will meet here in Lviv with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk regarding the work of the new Ministry of National Unity and support for Ukrainians abroad,” Zelenskyy remarked.

Rebuilding Efforts in Lviv

In addition to their discussions, Prime Minister Tusk visited Melnyk Street in Lviv, a historic area undergoing reconstruction after suffering heavy damage from a Russian missile attack. The Chancellery of the Prime Minister of Poland highlighted this visit on social media, showcasing Poland’s solidarity with Ukraine in rebuilding war-affected areas.

Productive Talks on Cooperation and Unity

During the press conference, President Zelenskyy described the talks as “productive,” highlighting mutual understanding and shared goals between the two nations. “The Prime Minister informed me about the arrangements made by the Polish side. I shared our conditions and the diplomatic talks we are having with our partners. It is very important for Ukraine and Poland to work together to support each other’s efforts,” Zelenskyy said.

The two leaders also addressed historical issues between their countries, noting progress in joint efforts and dialogue. Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of Europe maintaining a strong, unified stance to support Ukraine, rejecting the notion of a temporary pause in combat actions.

Poland’s Continued Support for Ukraine

The Ukrainian President expressed gratitude for Poland’s assistance and commitment, calling it crucial for Ukraine’s resilience. “Poland has demonstrated its willingness to help, and we appreciate the support already provided,” Zelenskyy stated.

The meeting marks another step in strengthening bilateral ties between Poland and Ukraine, with a focus on NATO aspirations, rebuilding efforts, and fostering regional unity amid challenging circumstances.
