Tashkent, January 28, 2025 – The Europe Today: Saida Mirziyoyeva, Assistant to the President of Uzbekistan, has shared insights on the nation’s progress in its accession process to the World Trade Organization (WTO), highlighting the transformative reforms initiated by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Writing on her Telegram channel, Mirziyoyeva noted that 2024 marked a pivotal year for Uzbekistan’s WTO accession journey, driven by bold economic reforms. Two critical WTO working group meetings were convened last year, enabling the drafting of the Working Group Report, a key document in the membership process.
Furthermore, Uzbekistan successfully concluded bilateral negotiations with 15 countries, including the United States, China, and Japan, and signed 23 agreements as part of its accession efforts.
Mirziyoyeva also emphasized the rapid adoption of 20 key laws aimed at enhancing business transparency and fostering competition. She expressed confidence in Uzbekistan’s ability to sustain this momentum throughout 2024, aspiring to achieve full WTO membership. She noted that accession would significantly boost Uzbekistan’s investment appeal and facilitate the integration of local businesses into regional and global value chains.
“The ultimate goal of WTO accession and the reforms initiated by the Head of State is the well-being of citizens, the creation of decent jobs, and the transition to more efficient economic governance,” Mirziyoyeva stated.
Uzbekistan’s ongoing commitment to comprehensive reforms underscores its dedication to fostering economic growth, enhancing international partnerships, and ensuring sustainable development for its citizens.
