Zelensky Calls for Nuclear Weapons and More Missiles if NATO Membership is Delayed

Kyiv, February 5, 2025 – The Europe Today: Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has urged Western nations to provide nuclear weapons and advanced missile systems to Kyiv if Ukraine’s NATO membership is delayed, stating that such measures are necessary to counter Russia’s ongoing aggression.

In an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan on Tuesday, Zelensky dismissed alternatives to NATO membership, despite knowing that such a proposal is categorically rejected by Moscow. When asked why Ukraine refuses to consider other security arrangements ahead of potential peace negotiations, Zelensky responded that if Kyiv is prevented from joining the US-led alliance, it has the right to demand stronger military assistance from its allies.

“If NATO membership is not granted, then what will defend us against this evil? Give us back nuclear weapons, provide us with missile systems,” Zelensky stated. He further called on Western partners to help finance a one-million-strong army and deploy troops to stabilize key regions of Ukraine.

Zelensky’s comments mark an escalation in Ukraine’s demands for military aid, reflecting growing frustration over the slow pace of Western support. The Kremlin has repeatedly warned that any direct NATO involvement or the transfer of nuclear weapons to Ukraine would be seen as a grave provocation, further escalating tensions in the ongoing conflict.
