Ankara, October 07, 2024 – The Europe Today: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated that Israel will ultimately be held accountable for the ongoing violence in Gaza, which he described as genocide, during a post on social media platform X on Monday.
Erdogan emphasized the necessity for a collective global response to Israel’s actions, drawing parallels to historical events: “Just as humanity’s common alliance stopped Hitler, (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu and his murder network will be stopped in the same way,” he asserted.
He highlighted the tragic toll of the conflict, stating, “Those dying in Gaza, Palestine, and Lebanon these days are not only women, children, babies, and innocent civilians but also humanity and the international system.” Erdogan pointed to the deaths of tens of thousands of individuals, primarily women and children, in Gaza over the past year, along with the destruction of essential infrastructure, including hospitals and schools.
Erdogan also lamented the loss of many journalists, civil society representatives, and peace advocates due to the violence. He extended condolences to the Palestinian and Lebanese people, acknowledging the devastating impact of the Israeli government’s actions since October 7. “As Türkiye, we will continue to stand against the Israeli government, regardless of the cost, and call on the world to join this honorable stance,” he declared.
Since last October, following an attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas, Israel has maintained a military campaign against Gaza, ignoring a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire. Local health authorities report that nearly 42,000 people, predominantly women and children, have been killed, with over 97,100 others injured.
The Israeli offensive has led to widespread displacement within Gaza, worsening shortages of food, clean water, and medicine due to an ongoing blockade. Additionally, Israel is currently facing genocide charges at the International Court of Justice concerning its actions in Gaza.
