Hanoi, March 10, 2026 – The Europe Today: General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam on Monday received Scott Strazik, President and CEO of U.S. energy equipment firm GE Vernova, in Hanoi to discuss strengthening cooperation in the energy sector.
Welcoming Strazik on his visit to Vietnam, Tô Lâm praised the company’s investment and business activities in the country, noting their practical contributions to Vietnam’s economic development and to strengthening ties between Vietnam and the United States.
He affirmed that Vietnam considers the United States one of its most important partners and expressed hope that bilateral cooperation would continue expanding under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework. He highlighted economic, trade, investment, science and technology, and innovation cooperation as key drivers of the relationship and examples of mutually beneficial international collaboration.
The Vietnamese leader also recalled his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House during his visit to attend the inaugural session of the Gaza Board of Peace, noting that both sides discussed directions for strengthening bilateral relations in the coming period.
Tô Lâm emphasized that Vietnam always values and facilitates investment by American energy corporations, stressing that such cooperation brings tangible benefits to businesses and people in both countries while further deepening bilateral ties.
He welcomed GE Vernova’s initiative to organize the annual “Future Energy Leadership” conference in Vietnam, describing it as a platform to address practical issues in the energy sector. The General Secretary added that Vietnam is ready to serve as a gateway for the company’s cooperation with countries in the region, particularly members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Highlighting the crucial role of energy in Vietnam’s development strategy, Tô Lâm encouraged GE Vernova to leverage its technological expertise and global experience to strengthen cooperation in energy infrastructure, technology transfer, and human resource development. He noted that the company could become an important partner in implementing the Politburo’s Resolution No. 70 on national energy security through 2030, with a vision to 2045.
For his part, Strazik congratulated Tô Lâm on his re-election and the successful conclusion of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. He said he was honored to be received during his first visit to the country in his capacity as President and CEO of GE Vernova.
Strazik expressed satisfaction with the company’s three decades of operations in Vietnam, saying that the strong growth achieved during that time provides a solid foundation for future strategic projects and cooperation initiatives.
He also praised Vietnam’s leadership vision, open economic policies, and sustained economic growth, which he said have inspired GE Vernova’s decision to hold its annual energy conference in Vietnam—the first Asian country to host the event. The conference gathered more than 100 leaders from major global energy corporations and marked the beginning of a new phase of cooperation between GE Vernova, Vietnam, and the wider region.
Strazik reaffirmed that GE Vernova is ready to serve as a bridge between businesses and governments of the two countries and to support Vietnam not only in ensuring energy security but also in achieving its broader socio-economic development objectives.
