Dushanbe, July 14, 2026 – The Europe Today: Tajikistan’s state-owned power utility, Open Joint Stock Holding Company Barki Tojik, generated a total of 8.89 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity during the first half of 2026, a slight decrease of 2.7 million kWh compared to the same period last year, Director General Mahmadumar Asozoda announced during a press conference on July 13.

According to the company, 7.93 billion kWh of electricity was produced by the country’s hydropower plants, while 964 million kWh was generated by combined heat and power (CHP) facilities. Electricity losses across Barki Tojik’s hydropower and CHP stations amounted to 28.4 million kWh, representing 0.32 percent of total electricity production, marking an improvement of 0.07 percentage points compared to the first half of 2025.

The company also reported that thermal energy production reached 751,000 gigacalories (Gcal) during the reporting period, a decline of 61,500 Gcal from the corresponding period last year.

To strengthen the country’s electricity supply, Barki Tojik purchased 2.75 billion kWh of electricity from independent domestic producers and external sources during the first six months of 2026, a reduction of 258.7 million kWh compared to the same period in 2025. The bulk of the electricity was procured from the Sangtuda-1 Hydropower Plant (1.48 billion kWh), Sangtuda-2 Hydropower Plant (474.2 million kWh), and the Rogun Hydropower Plant (667.2 million kWh).

Officials said Barki Tojik has continued implementing the relevant decisions of the Government of Tajikistan and the priorities outlined in President Emomali Rahmon’s annual address to parliament. The company stated that its primary focus remains the efficient and economical use of the country’s electricity generation capacity and water-energy resources to ensure a stable and sustainable power supply.
