Kitakyushu, November 22, 2024 – The Europe Today: The 2024 World Table Tennis (WTT) Finals continued on Thursday, with the men’s and women’s singles quarterfinalists and doubles semifinalists determined.
In the men’s singles, Lin Shidong delivered a strong performance to defeat Alexis Lebrun of France 3-1 in an exciting offensive battle. Lin reflected, “Winning 3-1 was not easy. I prepared thoroughly for this match, especially given Alexis’ excellent recent form.”
Top seed Wang Chuqin faced Germany’s Patrick Franziska, continuing their rivalry after their meeting in the WTT Saudi Arabia Grand Smash final, where Wang won 4-2. This time, Wang triumphed 3-1, securing the final quarterfinal berth. Wang will next face Swedish Olympic silver medalist Truls Moregard, who overcame Anton Kallberg in a tough five-set match.
In the women’s singles, reigning champion Sun Yingsha clashed with Chen Xingtong in an all-Chinese battle. Sun initially took control, but Chen mounted a strong comeback, securing a 3-2 victory after a tense final game. “What I did well today was keeping a steadier mindset,” Chen commented post-match.
Wang Manyu, ranked World No. 2, overcame South Korea’s Shin Yubin 3-1 in their first-ever meeting. Wang will face her teammate Qian Tianyi in the quarterfinals.
The 2024 WTT Finals are taking place from November 20 to 24, with the next phase set to bring further exciting clashes.
