Tashkent, November 19, 2024 – The Europe Today: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a meeting on November 18 to discuss strategies for socio-economic development and enhancing the investment climate in the Andijan region. The meeting focused on leveraging the region’s economic potential, which has seen significant progress in industry, entrepreneurship, trade, services, tourism, and agriculture following the President’s visit earlier this year.
Despite recent achievements, President Mirziyoyev emphasized that many opportunities remain untapped. Studies conducted across districts have identified several promising initiatives to boost regional development.
Among these is a project launched by Chinese investors in Oltinkul and Jalaquduq districts to grow peppers using drip irrigation and process them across 600 hectares. The initiative is projected to yield export revenues of $15,000 per hectare. In Pakhtaabad district, a collaboration with a UAE company has cultivated 470 hectares of cherries and berries, with the investor requesting state-provided infrastructure to meet investment obligations.
Further opportunities include the restoration of four poultry enterprises, which could provide employment for 650 individuals from low-income families, and the expansion of ADM Electrics in Asaka, a company producing automotive wires and multimedia systems. The localization of car models such as Onix, Tracker, and Kia Sonet is expected to enhance the company’s production capacity and profitability.
During the meeting, the Hokim of Andijan region presented a draft resolution outlining target indicators for the region’s socio-economic development through 2025. These include attracting $3.1 billion in investments, implementing 334 investment projects, creating 305,000 jobs, and achieving $1 billion in exports.
To address the region’s population density, 1,800 hectares of land will be repurposed, including hilly and non-agricultural areas, for building production complexes, service facilities, and residential housing.
President Mirziyoyev approved the proposals and issued additional directives to maximize the effective use of new opportunities, ensure modern infrastructure for projects, and enhance employment and income for the local population.
This strategic initiative is expected to drive comprehensive development in Andijan, positioning it as a key contributor to Uzbekistan’s overall economic growth.
