Baku, October 24, 2024 – The Europe Today: Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with his Brazilian counterpart Mauro Vieira on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, where the two discussed enhancing bilateral and multilateral relations. The talks particularly focused on preparations for the upcoming 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, according to a report from the NHC.
During the meeting, the ministers emphasized the importance of increasing mutual visits and contacts to bolster political dialogue. Both Bayramov and Vieira underscored the value of political consultations in exploring new cooperation opportunities, particularly in areas of mutual interest.
They also addressed the current trade volume between Azerbaijan and Brazil, noting that it does not yet reflect the full potential for deeper economic and commercial collaboration. The ministers highlighted the need to capitalize on existing opportunities to strengthen ties in these sectors.
Minister Bayramov briefed Vieira on the ongoing COP29 negotiations, outlining Azerbaijan’s key initiatives and priorities as the conference’s president. He emphasized the importance of collaboration within the COP Presidencies Troika and expressed optimism about securing financial resources to tackle climate change—one of Azerbaijan’s core objectives for its COP29 presidency.
In addition to climate discussions, the two ministers exchanged views on other bilateral and regional matters of mutual interest, signaling a shared commitment to deepening cooperation across multiple fronts.
