Kuala Lumpur, February 6, 2025 – The Europe Today: As part of the official visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Malaysia, the First Uzbekistan – Malaysia Educational Forum on “Opportunities and Initiatives in Higher Education to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals” was successfully held. The forum brought together key stakeholders in the education sector, including the heads of higher education institutions from Samarkand.
Representatives from the Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages and the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage presented insights into their institutions’ academic and research activities. The event featured presentations and exhibitions showcasing the tourism potential of Samarkand, highlighting its cultural and educational significance.
A major outcome of the forum was the establishment of academic collaborations between Uzbekistan and Malaysia. In particular, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages and Sultan Idris Education University of Malaysia. Under this agreement, both institutions plan to implement exchange programs for teachers and students beginning in the 2025/2026 academic year. Additionally, plans were announced for organizing educational and tourist summer schools for Malaysian students at the Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages.
The forum underscored the commitment of both nations to fostering academic partnerships and advancing educational initiatives that align with sustainable development goals. These agreements mark a significant step towards strengthening bilateral cooperation in higher education, research, and cultural exchange between Uzbekistan and Malaysia.
