Dushanbe, July 25, 2026 – The Europe Today: The International Investment Forum “POMIRINVEST-2026” was held in Khorugh, the capital of Tajikistan’s Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), bringing together diplomats accredited to Tajikistan, domestic and international investors, business leaders, development partners, and senior government officials to explore new investment opportunities and strengthen economic cooperation.
Organized by the State Committee on Investment and State Property Management of the Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with the Badakhshan Entrepreneurs Association, the forum aimed to attract domestic and foreign investment, showcase the region’s economic potential, and promote stronger public-private partnerships.
Ahead of the opening session, participants toured an exhibition featuring industrial and agricultural products, as well as traditional handicrafts from the region. The exhibition highlighted the achievements of local manufacturers, entrepreneurs, and artisans, demonstrating GBAO’s growing production capacity and cultural heritage.
Officials noted that, under the continued support of the Government of Tajikistan and the development-oriented policies of President Emomali Rahmon, the annual POMIRINVEST forum has become an important platform for expanding economic cooperation and attracting investment to the region. This year’s event is being held in the lead-up to the 35th anniversary of Tajikistan’s State Independence.
During the forum, it was announced that over the past five years, as part of the country’s 2022–2026 Years of Industrial Development initiative, 174 industrial enterprises have been established across GBAO, while construction is underway on an additional 30 industrial facilities.
Participants were also briefed on major infrastructure and development projects in transport, agriculture, tourism, and energy. Among the notable achievements was the completion this year of the Darvoz–Rushon section of the international Dushanbe–Khorugh–Kulma Highway, with preparations already underway for the next phase of construction.
In the energy sector, officials highlighted the commissioning of the Sebzor Hydropower Plant in Roshtqala District and the construction of solar power facilities in Murghob District, both of which have strengthened the region’s energy capacity. Technical and economic feasibility studies are also continuing for the proposed Sanobod Hydropower Plant in Rushon District, alongside several other strategic energy projects.
Speakers emphasized that the results of recent cooperation and the continued success of the POMIRINVEST forum demonstrate that stronger partnerships between the public and private sectors, supported by international development partners, are creating greater opportunities for implementing key economic and social development projects throughout the region.
Representatives of domestic and international companies, together with development partners, expressed strong interest in expanding cooperation in industries including manufacturing, energy, tourism, agriculture, and other sectors of the regional economy, reaffirming their readiness to invest in future projects.
The forum concluded with the signing of 57 memoranda of understanding between government institutions, businesses, and investors, with a combined value exceeding 6.58 billion Tajik somoni. The agreements are expected to facilitate the implementation of new investment projects and provide a significant boost to the socio-economic development of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region.
